Glucono Delta Lactone (GDL), also known as Gluconolactone or E575, is a gentle Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) derived from glucose fermentation. Due to its larger molecular structure compared to Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) such as glycolic acid, it penetrates the skin more slowly and superficially, making it an excellent choice for sensitive, reactive, or easily irritated skin.
When dissolved in water, GDL gradually converts into gluconic acid, providing mild exfoliating benefits while helping to maintain skin hydration. Unlike stronger exfoliating acids, it gently loosens and removes dead skin cells from the skin’s surface without causing significant irritation or dryness.
